notes

This is one of only 4 tracks on the album that Red actually heard- albeit in their demo form; and like “Nightfall” the original demo didn’t seem to fit in with any other project I’d ever worked on…until it emerged here, ready and willing to be what it wished.

I’m still not entirely sure what “Dreamtime” is all about, lyrically; I’m not sure it needs to be about anything; but it speaks of big spaces, dreams, connections, growings and transformings…

Perhaps this is a song that doesn’t need to be about anything in particular.

Of all the songs I’ve written this one seemed to be an evolution rather than a simple writing, in every sense. And yet…once we’d finished it and Pete had mixed, it didn’t seem to have moved too far away from the original demos, just increased it’s overall dimensions”.

lyrics

Here comes the dawn in red and gray now that the night is over
A fading moon over a mountainside giving way to sunlight
Holding the line
You’re in my arms once more
Present in the here and now
Here with me in the dreamtime

I’ll never give up; I’ll never back down I’ll be the tide the years can’t stop
But I am so small and powerless as the mountains shake me
Holding the line
You’re in my arms once more
Present in the here and now
Here with me in the dreamtime

Holding back the soul of the mountain; we’re rising hawks above the snowline
Reaching, calling, becoming…..
Holding the line
You’re in my arms once more
Present in the here and now
Here with me in the dreamtime

I hear a piper on the headland lamenting all that’s been
The cry of naked centuries echoing out to sea
Holding the line
You’re in my arms once more
Present in the here and now
Here with me in the dreamtime
